Recently, I have taken some time for myself away from building a business on the side ( Sly Cocktails) and through coaching at Startmate, I have subsequently fallen into ‘building people’. It requires adaptability and a willingness to navigate ambiguity. It's no small task to be a startup operator. It might not be a priority to execute on these ideas right away, but it helps you to connect your work with the company's vision and mission. Create space to get inspired and explore all the opportunities you have to increase your impact and that of your team. Regular 1:1 meetings with your manager can help you discuss what's working, what's not, and plan for your career progression.Ĥ️⃣ Stay inspired: Nine times out of ten, you have joined a startup because the possibility of impacting the world is exciting to you. This enables you to make data-driven decisions and showcase your impact to the company.ģ️⃣ Seek feedback: Actively seek feedback to grow and improve. Take ownership when mistakes happen and treat them as valuable lessons.Ģ️⃣ Track metrics: Record and analyse meaningful metrics for the business and understand where your contributions add value or could be optimised. After working with multiple startup and scale-up companies (4+ □), here's what I wish I knew earlier:ġ️⃣ Embrace failure: Learn from others, you don't have to know everything but you do need to be willing to have a crack at something new.
